The Kato Show Returns!

If you’ve never heard of The Green Hornet, you aren’t alone.  Though he’s one of the oldest masked heroes he’s never gotten much notoriety by recent generations.  While Batman has made numerous movies, Superman saved us many times, X-Men underwhelmed us, and Spiderman went into the cinematic crapper, Green Hornet has fallen by the wayside.  Even The Phantom (another title many youngsters have never heard of) at least got a short-lived cartoon show, a B-grade movie, and a Syfy miniseries.

The last time Green Hornet got a lot of attention, it was a TV show that ran with limited success in the USA.  Starring Van Williams in the title role, it also featured a little-known actor as his sidekick “Kato”.  The actor’s name was Bruce Lee, and this show would launch him into an all out rise to stardom.

Well, there is a new Green Hornet movie coming out, and while it doesn’t have Bruce Lee, it does have a rather slim Seth Rogen. It also seems to have some rather interesting cinematographic and special effects.  While I’m not expecting this to bring the franchise to the same level as DC’s and Marvel’s poster children, it will be nice to see an old classic get some star treatment!

  1. As a fellow big, sarcastic, guy I have to say I’m a fan of Seth Rogen. Combined with a Kato who genuinely seems to be able to kick ass, and I think this could be a fun movie. Putting in 3D is a further example of how this gimmick is destroying movies, but that’s another story.
