Why “Stolen Droids”?
The name came to be on sort of a whim. Anyone familiar with Star Wars (and/or Troops) will immediately recognize it, but it isn't so specific to Star Wars that people will mistake us for a fan site. I didn't actually expect the site to last long, and was figuring it would turn into another dumping place for my online images. Thanks to the support of my authors, however, I think the site is here to stay.
Who are the authors?
The authors are a collection of people who I've met through school or work or in life. That doesn't mean that no one I don't personally know can't be an author, but it helps if I at least know how and what you write about. If you think you want to be an author, drop a line here in the forums or use the contact form up above.
Why does the site occasionally look funny?
Depends. It could be because we're always working on different areas to make the SD expirience a little more attractive. It could be because the host has randomly decided to move server locations again. It could also be because you're using Internet Explorer.
What's a Gravatar?
Gravatar stands (sort of) for Globally Recognized Avatar. You can sign up for the service here. Basically it means that any site you sign up for will use the same avatar you have registered at Gravatar. Many sites do this now, and it makes it much easier for people to use the same image for themselves.
Why didn't my comment show up when I submitted it!?
If you are not registered with the site, any comment you submit will go into a holding queue for the admin to manually approve. If the comment is considered valid (meaning it's not an ad or generated by a bot) then it will get approved. We will not censor people's comments simply because we don't agree with them! So if it never showed up, then either our spam catcher stopped it or we thought it looked fake. If this wasn't the case, let us know and we'll make sure not to stop yours in the future. Or you could just register . . .
What's an RSS Feed?
The short answer is “an easier way to troll”. If you subscribe to an RSS feed, the latest “headlines” will be displayed whenever you look at your “feed reader”. Google Reader is one of the easiest to use, and is very handy since you can use it where ever you are. While news agencies have used them for awhile, they have become increasingly popular with bloggers as a way of keeping tabs (stalking) multiple sites at once, without having to visit each site individually. You can also subscribe to comics, and to these forums.
Isn't “geek” a bad thing?
Not really. While the original connotation of the word was usually meant as a slam on the person, it's recently become a badge of honor for many of us. While the jury is still out on when a “geek” becomes a “nerd”, it's typically assumed that “geeks” are still above “nerds” on the pecking order of things . . . sort of like “high-functioning autistics”. It's safe to assume that if someone is heavily into their interests, they are bordering on geek territory; you CAN be a sports geek.
