In the world of geeks, first is only good when posting a reply. FIRST! HA! HA! HA! Suckers….
Actually, I used to have a big aversion to getting the first release of anything when it came to computers. There’s always bugs that need to be worked out. Sure, nowadays there’s always a patch or firmware upgrade that will fix a lot of the problems but why deal with it if you don’t have those are usually released weeks if not months after you bought the product. Don’t believe me? Check out my post on Sim City Societies. http://zohnerfamily.com/2007/12/05/simcity-societies-experience/. It took Tilted Mill three patches before the game was playable. By that time though, I had lost interest and decided to forget about it.
On the plus side, if a company can honestly say that they were the first to do something, they get bragging rights and can possibly revolutionize how things are done in the future. But with bragging rights come bugs and usually lots of them unless they did an awesome job beta testing the product. Since I work for a company that does beta testing, I’m starting to get over my repugnance to some company’s “firsts” but that’s only because I see the beta process that their devices go through and am aware of the bugs that are found and resolved. I am still very careful when dealing with a version 1.0 but I can see why a company would rush a product to market in order to be first.
Well, if it’s an actual World First, I’m not so against it. However, if it’s only “the first one in the world with OUR name on it” . . . it’s a little different.

Here’s the actual “console” it goes to.
