What’s bad about a new Civilization game?  The answer is nothing.  I started playing Civ III a few years back and quickly became addicted which is odd since I’m usually not too big of an RTS fan.  I just learned that this fall, Sid Meier will grace us with Civilization V.  This news may not be welcome by some, but if you’re a fan of the series, I’m guessing that it’s the best news you’ve heard yet today.  (Since it’s still early, this is a fairly safe bet.)  Behold the trailer in all its glory!

I keep hoping to see Ronald Reagan, Hitler, and Mussolini make their way into the Civ universe.  Hopefully this is the time.

MarvelYourUniverse_CoverAccording to the New York Times, Disney has made a bid to purchase Marvel Comics for $4 billion.

Walt Disney Company said Monday it has agreed to buy Marvel Entertainment, the storied comic book company that owns the rights to such popular characters as Spider-Man and and the Fantastic Four, in a cash and stock deal it valued at $4 billion. The deal comes more than 10 years after Marvel was at the center of a bruising and highly public takeover battle between two feisty financiers.

Shareholders at Marvel will need to approve the transaction, which boards of directors at both companies have already approved.

I would apologize for posting yet another video clip instead of my thoughts on any number of geeky topics; however, this is the best thing you’ll see today.  I haven’t seen G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra yet, although I most eventually will, but I know for a fact that there is no way that can hope to be as awesome as The Ballad of G.I. Joe courtesy of the fine folks over at Funny or Die.  Thanks to this all-star cast, which includes Zach Galifiankais as Snow Job and Olivia Wilde as The Baroness, we now know what the Joes and Cobra do when the day is done.  Who knew that Destro played the clarinet?

If you remember the days of the one red button joystick, cell phones as big as your head, and betamax, then this video is for you.  If everything that I just said made you scratch your head and say “huh?”, then you’re obviously not up on your history and should be ashamed of yourself.  (What are they teaching kids in schools these days?)

I just was made aware of this video thanks to Twitter.  It is probably the most awesome thing I’ve ever seen.  At least for today anyways.

I saw this video last week but it had been taken down due to “copyright infringement” so I was never able to actually watch it.  I found a new version which will hopefully survive long enough for those of you who haven’t heard Jake Lloyd talk about how The Phantom Menace still affects his life to this day.

If I bumped into him on the street, I like to think that I wouldn’t punch him and then say something like “YIPEEE!”  but I don’t think I can promise that.  Really though, this kid has had a rough life.  He’s been the punching bag for those who get tired of beating up on Jar Jar Binks when in reality, he was just playing a character that happened to be cursed with really crappy dialog.  Stupid George Lucas and his brain that fell out of his ear…

The best part about this video is you’ll be a better person for having watched it. Rapping LARPers FTW!

In 1993 my dad gave me three copies of Superman #75.  Two of these were the “black bag” variant that contained assorted goodies and a variant cover all encased in a black poly bag with a bleeding Superman logo on the front.  The third copy was the widely available basic newsstand version.  In addition to the individual issues, he also gave me The Death of Superman trade paperback which contained the 11 comics detailing the entire Death of Superman storyline.  Growing up, I was always been a fan of comic books but I hadn’t read them with any sort of regularity since I was in grade school so I was a bit surprised by this present but I was still grateful and excited nonetheless.  Little did my dad know that his seemingly simple gift would send me down the long path to becoming a comic book geek.

Last week while I was playing a baseball game on my computer, the screen suddenly minimized and I was staring at my desktop.  I was mildly annoyed and wondered what had just happened but didn’t dwell on it too much and resumed playing my game.  After a few pitches, the same thing happened.  This was not chance; something was messing with my computer and I didn’t like it.  I put my game on hold and started researching the issue.

Obviously something was stealing the focus of the window that my game was in.  This is why it kept minimizing to the desktop.  I opened up Tweak UI to verify that I had enabled the option to prevent one window from stealing focus from another and saw that I had.  This was getting more and more interesting.

A few new videos detailing some of the rogues that we’ll be fighting inside Arkham in the new game, Batman: Arkham Asylum have been released.  The first is of Bane who looks totally awesome.  (I’ve always liked Bane but I think it was cheap how he wore down Batman before fighting him in Knightfall.)

Next up we have footage of Harley Quinn.  It would appear that she has whored herself up a bit from her days on Batman The Animated Series.

Man, this looks like it’s going to be a great game.
